History

Albany County Teachers Credit Union was founded in 1957 to service Albany County School District Teachers. This entity later merged with Gem City Credit Union, who serviced City of Laramie, Federal, Postal, and State employees, in 1986 to form Albany County Public Employees Federal Credit Union. In 1997 the employees of KOWB/KCGY Radio and Laramie Eye Clinic were adopted into the field of membership.

In December, 2000, the credit union received a federal community charter and officially became ACPE Federal Credit Union, currently having 4,600 members with assets of $26 million and still growing. Membership is now open to anyone living, working, worshipping or volunteering in Albany or Carbon County, WY.  The main office is located at 2835 Grand Avenue in Laramie, Wyoming.

Requirements

To be a member of ACPE Federal Credit Union, you must reside, work, worship or volunteer in the Wyoming counties of Albany or Carbon or be in the military from either of these two counties. Then, open a share account with a minimum of $5.00. With a uniquely numbered share account, you are entitled to all the benefits and services of ACPE Federal Credit Union including the responsibility to participate and vote for members of the Board of Directors. You may also volunteer for the board and committees. Once a person is a member, they may remain a member even though their residency may change; this is called the "Once a member, always a member" philosophy.
